Dream Machine.

Just like how I pull skeletons to the surface with glass carving, I exposed the inner workings of this piece.

I’ve always enjoyed problem solving and taking things apart. Just like how I pull skeletons to the surface with glass carving, I exposed the inner workings of this piece. This piece is a functional sculpture with moving parts, inspired by the coin-operated kid rides that we grew up seeing outside grocery stores. This movement in this piece is powered by a hand crank on one side. When the hand crank is turned, the attached gears rotate and the whale in a plane moves up and down. The propellor on the plane spins as well.

This piece was made in collaboration with Chadd Lacy. Chadd blew and sculpted the whale in the plane in borosilicate glass, and Adrienne fabricated the cloud hollow form and all the inner workings out of brass and copper.
